Iron Smelter

Iron smelters can be build on unused plains. They smelt iron ore to iron bars, that are used for the construction of building or to outfit armies and spies. The sufficient supply with coal should be guaranteed. You may give iron smelters a higher priority as compared to armouries in the stock.

The production of iron bars is enormously important - from beginning to the end of the game. Iron bars are generally the most expensive building material in the market.
